Grilled Chicken Wings with White BBQ Sauce Recipe

Summer is almost here, and we’ve got the perfect recipe to level up your backyard cookouts: BBQ chicken wings with White BBQ Sauce. This tangy, creamy Southern classic is packed with bold flavor and pairs perfectly with smoky grilled wings.

Also known as Alabama White Sauce, this barbecue staple was created in 1925 by Chef Bob Gibson at Big Bob Gibson’s Bar-B-Q in Northern Alabama, where it was originally served with smoked chicken. Since then, it has become a Southern cookout favorite for anyone looking to bring something a little different to the grill.

One bite, and White BBQ Sauce just might become your new summer tradition. Serve these barbeque wings with our favorite Cajun Potato Salad and spicy sweet Corn Maque Choux for the ultimate Southern summer

  • 2 tbsp spicy brown mustard
  • 2 tsp prepared horseradish
  • 1⁄2 cup cider vinegar
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 2 tsp black pepper
  • 1⁄4 tsp kosher salt
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1⁄2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1⁄4 tsp cayenne pepper

Chicken + Marinade Ingredients

  • 5 lb jumbo chicken wings
  • 2 cups whole milk Greek yogurt
  • Zest of 2 lemons
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1⁄2 cup chopped flat-leaf parsley
  • 1⁄2 cup MGSC Creole Spice Blend

Equipment

  • Lump hardwood charcoal
  • Dome-style outdoor grill
  • Chimney starter
  • Long grilling tongs
  • Mixing bowl

Step-by-Step Instructions to Make Grilled Chicken Wings with White BBQ Sauce

Step 1: Marinate the Wings

In a large mixing bowl, combine yogurt, lemon zest, minced garlic, parsley, and Creole spice blend. Add chicken wings and toss to coat evenly. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or overnight for deeper flavor.

Step 2: Prepare the Grill

Light the lump hardwood charcoal using a chimney starter. Once coals are white-hot, spread them evenly on one side of the grill to create a two-zone setup (direct and indirect heat). Preheat the grill with thedome closed until temperature reaches about 400°F.

Step 3: Grill the Wings -

Grill wings directly over heat for 3–4 minutes per side to develop char, then move to the cooler side of the grill. Cover and cook for another 15–20 minutes, turning occasionally, until wings reach an internal temperature of 165°F and crisp on the outside.

Step 4: Make the White BBQ Sauce

In a separate bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, mustard, horseradish, vinegar, garlic powder, black pepper, salt, brown sugar, Worcestershire, and cayenne until smooth and creamy. Adjust seasoning to taste.

Step 5: Serve

Remove wings from grill and let rest for a few minutes. Toss in or serve alongside the white BBQ sauce. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.
